Scheme 1
The project involved replacing a deteriorating property with contemporary homes that complement the surrounding landscape. Situated on the edge of the countryside, the site is characterised by a diverse development pattern, including backland properties. A pre-planning application played a crucial role in shaping the scheme, resulting in a proposal for three family homes—two fronting the highway and a third positioned to the rear.
The design prioritised spacious, open-plan living areas and generously sized en-suite bedrooms across three floors. The scheme aimed to create a seamless transition from urbanisation to the rural environment by thoughtfully integrating materials and architectural forms.
However, planning permission was ultimately refused, prompting the development of an alternative scheme that directly responded to the reasons for the refusal.

Scheme 2
Following the initial planning refusal, a revised scheme was developed, proposing two detached homes to replace the existing chalet-style property. Like the original design, the new proposal maintained generous living spaces featuring open-plan layouts and en-suite bedrooms.
A key focus of the revised design was maximising natural light, achieved through strategically positioned openings and the introduction of vaulted ceilings to create dynamic and engaging interior spaces. The selection of materials and architectural form once again sought to establish a harmonious transition between the built environment and the adjacent countryside.
Construction commenced in autumn 2019, with completion scheduled for spring 2020.
